Tape is manufactured exclusively for zippers. It is usually made of polyester but, depending on use, synthetic fiber tape, vinyl tape and cotton tape are also available.

A slider joins or separates the elements when the zipper is opened or closed and consists of a body and a pull-tab. Various types of sliders are available depending on use.
The portion where the elements are engaged is called the element top. The top is convex, just like a snap fastener, and the back is concave. The right and left of this convexity and concavity are engaged, and act to fasten the two together.

Common Zipper Types By Function

These functions are employed depending on use. There are various kinds of zippers, which have functions other than these.
(*Open - End zippers are normally "right - insert" with the insert pin on the wearers right, as shown in 'B' and 'C' above. However, "left-insert" type, usually required by USA buyers, can also be supplied if specified at the time of ordering.)
